BioOne始于1999年，是一个由多家著名大学赞助，由各学协会、高校与出版社联合组成的非营利组织，是唯一一个在生物科学研究领域具有高影响力的期刊整合联盟。BioOne的创立者包括：美国生物科学研究所（The American Institute of Biological Sciences，AIBS），学者出版及学术资源联盟（Scholarly Publishing & Academic Resources Coalition，SPARE），美国肯萨斯大学（The University of Kansas），美国西部图书馆联盟（Greater Western Library Alliance）以及亚伦出版公司（Allen Press, Inc.）。目前收录来自155家非商业出版社和学协会出版的高品质生物科学期刊，是相关学科进行教学研究的基础学术资源。
2018年1月起，BioOne共收录214种由学协会和非营利出版社出版的高品质生物科学学术期刊，其中81%有影响因子，64%期刊可提供XML格式，为BioOne独家收录。97%以上的期刊为同行评审期刊。5年平均影响因子高于2的期刊达到27种，所收录的Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History期刊2008年影响因子高达16.385。内容来自全球24个国家155家出版社，自1965年起至今，共约150万页内容。现刊内容每日更新。
